Proven Treatments Based on 12-Step Approach
Here at Humble Beginnings you’ll benefit from treatment based on the 12-Step model, the same treatment model that’s helped millions around the world recover from drug and alcohol addiction.
Addiction is a chronic disease, but here at Humble Beginnings, we’ll give you the tools to manage your symptoms and repair the damage drugs and alcohol have done in your life. The support of the 12-Step community is invaluable in early recovery, when you are first learning to navigate a substance-free life.
Sharing your stories with others who understand what you’ve been through and are still going through can shatter the loneliness and isolation many recovering addicts feel when they first get sober. We encourage you to continue attending 12-Step meetings as often as possible even after you leave Humble Beginnings. This excellent recovery support program is a cornerstone of aftercare and relapse prevention.
Integrative Psychotherapy for Addiction and Dual Disorders
When you enroll in Humble Beginnings our psychiatric care team will assess you for co-occurring mental disorders. Depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and other mental disorders are common among people who struggle with substance abuse issues. You’ll receive differential diagnosis screening for depression, anxiety, tobacco use, gambling and other maladaptive behaviors.
The link between mental disorders and substance abuse disorders is complex. If you have a substance abuse disorder, you’re at a higher risk for other mental health issues. Heavy substance abuse exacerbates the symptoms of depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions. It becomes a circular problem.
If you have a co-occurring mental health disorder, your treatment here at Humble Beginnings will need to address it. Untreated mental illness symptoms will only stand in the way of your recovery from addiction, and drive you towards relapse when you leave Humble Beginnings.
We here at Humble Beginnings are equipped to offer mental diagnoses and treatments in line with the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the DSM-V. The treatments we offer are beneficial for substance abuse disorders as well as mental health issues, and include:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy
- Motivational enhancement therapy
- Life skills training
- Expressive arts therapy
- Psycho-dynamic role play
- Relapse scenario role play
- Guided imagery therapy
- Cognitive reframing therapy
- Reflexive journaling therapy
- Group therapy
Family Education and Relapse Prevention Planning
However the support and understanding of your loved ones is crucial to the success of your recovery. That’s not the only reason we integrate family education, therapy and relapse prevention planning into our program for addiction treatment. Addiction is a family disease. It doesn’t just harm the person actively using drugs and alcohol – it harms that person’s spouse, children, parents and others who live in close relationships with the addict.
For true healing to occur, addiction recovery must include the whole family. That’s why we here at Humble Beginnings like to get the families of our attendees involved in addiction education programs, recovery support, and treatment for their own co-dependency issues.
Your loved ones are also venturing out into new territory as you learn to live without substances. We will help them develop the coping skills they need to thrive as the family of a recovering addict. We’ll also work with your family to get them involved in your relapse prevention and aftercare plan, so they can continue to support you in healthy ways when your time with us has ended.
